Metacognitive Reflection
TSTM 544 has been one crazy class this semester. It started off being a regular class that taught you the different ways of training people. Initially we were to have tutee for each of our training sessions, but that didn’t work out so well. I also remember taking an emotions test which helped to determine how well you channeled your emotions. This test showed that your career success is not only based upon your experience, skills, and education. Your attitude and how you handle situations can help guide you to the next level.
I think what really got me going in this class is creating a training session at Lowman Homes. This had to be one the most difficult trainings in the class. It wasn’t difficult because of the software. It was difficult because of the amount of people we to go through to get access to certain things to create the training. It took us an entire month of waiting just to hear back from the head person. That’s ridiculous!!! I think if we had the information earlier, we could have had more time to add more into the training. Fortunately I was in a team with great people who knew how to get stuff done. In the end, it was a team effort that made the training session a success.
The one thing that I thought was the most important lesson from this class is that you can never depend on one plan of training to be fool proof. There are so many different ways to conduct training that having a team makes it much easier to complete the task. I don’t think that there is one person in that classroom that could honestly say that they could have completed a training project by themselves. It helps even more when there are people who have different skills that can help make projects a big success. I wonder if there is a thing as one type of training that any type of person can learn from. If so what is it? How can you make your training program be useful to everyone without losing anyone?

Provost Academy......the first online school I saw in person. The presentatin was good. Usually people from businesses are kind of dull when presenting. It was nice to know that there are over 1500 students enrolled in this school. The availability of the teachers is amazing. Being able to access work anytime and anywhere would have been great back when I was in high school. I still feel that you have to be focused and have discipline to actually complete all of your work. I also think that parents should be very involved in a students education which one of the best things I saw about the online school. Parents get a login name and password to monitor there kids progress. Now parents have no excuse to not knowing what their kids are doing.

It is getting close to the end of the semester. Time has flown! It seems like yesterday we starting new classes. These past weeks have been crazy though. I have had more work due in these last weeks than in my past semester's classes. Not to mention that this is my first semester writing a 1500 word paper on my own in a while since English 102 (which didn't have to be single space like the one this semester). A few more weeks and Thanksgiving break will be here and then about two weeks and the semester is over. I am looking forward to next semester. Not to having more classes, but to graduating in May 2010. I haven't decided if I want a college ring yet especially since I heard they are very expensive. Oh well.....back to the home work to that I may move on to the next semester.

The South Carolina State Fair. When you are a kid it seems like one of the best weeks of the year. All the fun rides, specialty foods, and the games. It was like having your birthday when it wasn't your birthday. Sadly enough when you get older the fair seems a little.....bland. Yes the food is always good, but then you have to factor in how you will pay for all of the joys you had as a kid. You probably can only fit on maybe 5% of the rides considering you are a lot taller than any kid. Last year it was $7 to get into the fair and you buy tickets 5 for one dollar. Now it is $8 to get into the fair and $1 per ticket. Do the math.....one dollar per ticket and the good rides cost at minimum 3 tickets. That's a lot of money. I didn't go to the fair this year, but I know people who went and this is how I know how high the fair is now. I guarantee that the food is the same price, but I heard the drinks went up from $2 a bottle to $3 a bottle (notice that you only pay $1.29 for the same bottle drinks in a store). Clearly someone isn't too worried about the bad economy knowing that people will come to the fair anyway just to spend the money. Oh well, I can't wait until next year when the fair comes to see if the admission price will be $9.....ooops did I spill a secret???

At this current moment the Volgistics project is at a standstill. As a group, we determined that to better prepare ourselves to train the residents we need to have access to the volunteer side of the system. This will allow us to gain a better understanding as to how volunteers are to log hours, check schedules, etc. After gaining access to the system two things need to be completed: 1) a presentation is needed to show step-by-step directions on how to use the Volgistics system, and 2) a hand out will be created as a take home guide for reference. After the presentation is created, two of the group members will prepare to deliver the instructions to the class. Since there are two training dates, there will be three people per day to deliver the training.
My part of the group is to deliver the instruction on how to gain access to the Volgistics system and how to navigate through the system. Personally I think the training will be a success even if we only have three people sign up for the session. All my group members are equally skilled and I believe all deliverables will be done on schedule. Thanks group!!

Everyone knows that college football is a big deal. The only problem I have is why are there some teams that are ranked so high in the polls and they are not even that good. I mean really, why? I know the big wigs make their picks just so they can say who is the best. For example, USC Gamecocks beat Ole Miss (Yay!!!). Ole Miss was ranked No. 4. NUMBER 4!!! Ole Miss is not that good in the first place. They may have had a slight winning season over the years, but never that good to be number four. Maybe number 19. Can anyone answer this question?
